Alexandra Bridge: Elderly woman crashes car into tree, RAC rescue helicopter lands at scene on Brockman Hwy

An elderly woman has been seriously injured after the car she was driving slammed into a tree in the South West on Wednesday.

Firefighters and St John WA paramedics were called to a crash on Brockman Highway, near Warner Glen Road, in Alexandra Bridge around 1.50pm.

The driver – a woman believed to be in her 80s – became trapped in the vehicle after it left the road and hit a tree.

Both career and volunteer firefighters were working to free the woman from the wreckage before she was assessed by paramedics.

She is understood to have suffered serious injuries and was the only person inside the car — which crashed about 35km south of Margaret River.

The RAC rescue helicopter arrived at the scene around 2.45pm and the woman is expected to be flown to Royal Perth Hospital.
