Director Hidetaka Miyazaki and the rest of his team in FromSoftware single-handedly pioneered the Soulslike genre. The gaming community fell in love with the genre, and the director designed powerful enemies to give them a challenge and paired these enemies with a disgusting and atrocious character design.

The Soulslike genre gained a reputation for making hard games and most players would remember the horrid appearances of certain enemies. Miyazaki designed arguably the most disgusting enemy type in his latest project that fans universally agree with. The Giant Crayfish is not the hardest enemy to fight; however, fighting these things from a distance can be beneficial to avoid being hit by its impressive reach.

Some enemies in Elden Ring can be tough to beat; however, their horrid appearances made the experience of fighting them worse. The game developers wanted to depict these monstrosities accurately and have their appearances match their destructive capabilities.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki delved deeper into the element of horror and aimed to give the players a gaming experience that would allow them to fight these demons. The Dark Souls franchise primarily focused on the combat and the story second whereas Elden Ring found a fine balance in between.

One specific enemy type in the latest project has caught the player base’s attention and details about it are beyond disgusting and most players would do their best to avoid fighting. There is a lobster-like enemy type in Elden Ring called the Giant Crayfish that can fire projectiles from a distance and it turns out that the liquid it is firing is urine.

Other enemies in the game, like a moving giant hand, caught the players off guard, and some would prefer to stay out of its way. Miyazaki realized that appearances can be deceiving; however, the Soulslike genre could benefit from disgusting enemies that can pack a punch and the look of a major threat. Perishing from battle is a common trend in these games and players will likely spend more time around the bonfire checkpoint where they can feel safe and free from threats of all matter.

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion had a great marketing phase and FromSoftware unveiled new images before the release. Promo images revealed a new enemy type seemingly inspired by the Bloodborne franchise and fans believed it was the closest they can get to a sequel. The dark nature of the enemy brought back a feeling of nostalgia that the player base have missed and set the bar high for what they were about to experience.

Enemy design can amplify the gaming experience even further. The gaming community realized that the Soulslike genre could scratch the itch of a great gaming experience that can inspire the player base to be brave whenever they come across something that looks like it came from the underworld and face it head-on.

The Giant Crayfish is made of pure nightmare fuel, especially with the new information of its firing projectiles being urine. Players may not be directly hit but the Tarnished being doused with bodily fluids is a different kind of disrespect from enemy NPCs.

FromSoftware games always feature overpowered enemies that are not impossible to defeat. Paired with a menacing and evil look, players will think twice about handling a situation. Games like Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls are all dark by nature, and they augment the experience of traversing a foreign land while fighting
