How To Earn The Adherent Promised Title

With the release of Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC, space adventurers have an entirely new set of quests to take on and areas to explore. Bethesda’s promise of handcrafted environments is one of the major draws of the expansion, as people were starting to feel fatigued exploring the procedurally generated world of the base game.

The DLC has also given the player a better understanding of one of the more mysterious factions in the game—the House of Va’ruun. This infamous cult has created quite the name for itself, and they play a major role in one of the major missions in the expansion.

Bethesda’s titles have always allowed the player freedom to choose the kind of build they wish to run. In doing so, players create a name for themselves in the world, and often different factions will refer to the player in a unique manner that is aligned with their interaction.

While Starborn existed in the game, Shattered Space has introduced a few new titles to be earned in Starfield. The expansion has introduced a ton of new content, and players have been blazing through the various missions with their favorite companions by their side.

The second major mission in the game, right after you’re done investigating the Oracle space station, requires you to interact with members of the House of Va’ruun. This shadowy cult is one of the three main religions you can join in Starfield, and they have a more prominent role in Shattered Space.

The Promised, Broken mission will take you to the homeworld of the cult, Va’ruun’kai. From here, plates will have to make a series of choices that will award them one of six titles, with each being chosen based on the player’s decision during a certain section. However, to start this mission, the player will first have to travel to Dazra city.

Landing in Dazra City will Require you to Align with The House of Va’ruun

The councilor believes you are the chosen one destined to save their world.

Once you land on the planet, you will be immediately greeted by a cutscene the moment you exit your ship. Voris Nerun, a guard, will be quite wary of you, and he wants to know why you’ve decided to land on their planet. You can be honest and tell him it was an accident, and soon councilor Malibor Dul’kehf will join the talk. He will explain that there is trouble afoot in the city, and your arrival may be an act of providence.

A third individual, a phantom, will appear during your conversation with the guard and councilor. This is the phantom of Anasko Va’ruun, the leader of the religion, and he will appear in a form similar to the Vortex Phantoms on the Oracle.

Maribor states that this isn’t the first time the phantom has been spotted, but you are the first to let him know you can hear what they say. Maybe it’s another one of your Starborn special powers coming to the surface.

Once Malibor is convinced you understand the phantoms, he will bid you to follow him. He now believes you truly are the intended savior of the city, but to help Dazra, you must join the House of Va’ruun and accept the Great Serpent into your life. Once you enter the cult, you will then have to follow Malibor through the city to become Promised.

The Path is Long But Not Particularly Treacherous

The Serpent’s Path gives the player a deeper understanding of the cult’s beliefs.

After a bit of tailing, the councilor will take you into what appears to be a temple cut into the rockface. Here, you will meet the Herald of the Serpent, Inaza Kaisir. This is where the ritual to truly become a part of the House of Va’ruun begins. Speak with Inaza when you are ready, and she will require you not only to accept the Serpent but also to walk its path.

The doors will open, and you will have to follow along narrow corridors cut into the rock. While the name may have sounded intimidating, the path itself is pretty straightforward. Go down the stairs, into a tunnel, and then take the path on the left from the intersection until you arrive at a shrine. After Inaza is done addressing you, blow out the candle and then proceed along the path.

You’ll come across a brazier into which you will have to “cast your burdens” and then follow up the stairs through to the next set of doors. You will have to use your Boost Pack at the end of the path to cross the gap, and then enter the doors at the other end. Keep going until you come to another shrine where Inaza will once again address you, and then interact with the pool of water in front of you.

Tip

The water can damage you, so don’t go in for a dip!

With your meditation done, you now only have the final leg of the path to complete. Walk through the next set of doors, stand on the ledge, and shoot the Groat as a sacrifice. With your sacrifice made, you can enter the last set of doors to close out the ritual.

Your Choice in Dazra Will Determine Your Title in the Cult

Choose two of the four effigies in Shattered Space to get a snazzy new title.

Once you have entered the final chamber, get ready for a long lecture from Inaza. Along the way, you will encounter an altar with four effigies placed upon it. Interacting with these effigies will result in you gaining a specific title. The four effigies each represent a different quality:

  • Strength
  • Perseverance
  • Devotion
  • Obedience

Your task is to pick two of the four effigies and place them on the two altars. Doing so will grant you a unique title that the rest of the House of Va’ruun shall use to refer to you. To get The Adherent Promised Title, you will need to choose the Perseverance and Obedience Effigies to place on the two altars. The order you place them in doesn’t matter.

Now that you are an official member of the House of Va’ruun, you can continue the quest by speaking with Malibor. Which title did you go for in this quest? Let us know in the comments below and check out our other Starfield guides to make sure you leave nothing out in Shattered Space!
