The new Starfield DLC, Shattered Space, transports players to the mysterious and enigmatic planet of Va’ruun’kai, the homeland of the House Va’ruun. There’s a lot to explore and discover on this vast new land, but before we get to any of that, there’s a more pressing matter to attend to.

You’ll need to join the faction, which will happen as part of the main questline for the DLC. However, there is a big choice you need to make that will influence how to refer to you during your time on Va’ruun’kai.

How to Earn the Harbinger Promised Title in the Shattered Space DLC

If you haven’t yet, make sure to follow our guide on how to start the DLC so that you’re all set up before we continue. Reaching Dazra in the main story is necessary before getting the title. After you reach the city of Dazra, continue following the main quest until you reach the end of The Promised, Unbroken quest.

By now, you would have completed a series of actions relating to the induction ritual that will officially make you a member of the House Va’ruun. As you enter the final room to complete the ritual, you have a big choice to make.

You will need to pick two between four different effigies to place on two altars. It might seem random at first, but your choice will actually influence the title you receive from the Va’ruun people.

To obtain the Harbinger Promised Title, you simply must pick the Devotion and Strength effigies to place at the altar. After that, you will be granted the title of Harbinger from Inaza Kalsir.

What Do the Different Titles Do?

For the most part, these titles really only affect the way you’re looked at and referred to by the other people on Va’ruun’kai. For the time being, it seems there are no known consequences for quest rewards or NPC interactions.

The other possible titles you can acquire are:

• Reverent Promised
• Diviner Promised
• Armiger Promised
• Adherent Promised
• Vindicator Promised

After acquiring your title as Harbinger Promised, you can continue the quest until you talk to the NPC Ekris. After speaking to him, the quest “The Promised, Broken,” will finally end, and “Aligning the Houses,” begins.
