ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University announced the layoffs of 23 staff members on Friday.

A university spokesperson tells FOX 2 that the layoffs include workers from six administrative divisions and two schools.

The university says the layoffs are part of an effort to cut expenses by $20 million in the 2024 fiscal year.

“We are also looking ahead to future years, with work groups, leaders, faculty, and staff across the institution mapping out thoughtful changes that will maintain our financial stability, bolster our distinctive strengths, and ensure that we provide a transformative Jesuit education now and for future generations of students,” said Saint Louis University President Fred Pestello in a letter Friday to SLU faculty and staff.

In addition to the layoffs, more than 130 vacant positions have been eliminated across various schools and divisions.

Saint Louis University employs more than 1,700 full-time staff and has 2,600 total full-time employees.
