Spooky games to try this Halloween

Happy Halloween! Looking for a spectrum of spooky games to enjoy this Halloween season, try these recommendations you might have missed, or have been meaning to get around to.

The Medium

Before Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober team created The Medium, a psychological horror inspired by Silent Hill and Resident Evil. With a supernatural world based on painter Zdzislaw Beksinski’s art and music by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, The Medium proved that the team was immensely capable of creating a fantastic horror experience. An oddly beautiful, intense and disturbing world, with fun puzzles and engaging and exceptionally terrifying enemy encounters. This is the perfect game for a night in, with the lights off.

Stories Untold

Looking for something a little bit different, Stories Untold is an episodic text-based, first-person, puzzle-solving game; four short connected stories, all taking place in claustrophobic rooms with only a single computer to interact with. The isolation of the rooms and the only exit being a door behind that you can’t see, creates an eerie and unsettling atmosphere that makes you feel exposed and uncomfortable. If you want an experience like no other, try Stories Untold.

Alien Isolation

With the recent success of the new Alien: Romulus film, and the announcement of Alien: Isolation 2, now is a fantastic time to jump into Alien: Isolation. Creative Assembly successfully captures the claustrophobic feeling of the Nostromo, by duplicating its architecture and carrying over elements from the films. Players must explore the Sevastopol station for any means of escape, while avoiding the Alien and the occasional pesky android or human. The Alien, much like the original film, cannot be killed with the equipment on hand, so players must construct items for a better chance of survival, while trapped in a tense game of cat and mouse. In space, no one can hear you scream.

Dead by Daylight

Dead By Daylight (DBD) is a multiplayer horror experience. Take on the role of a killer, preventing the escape of four survivors, or play as one of the survivors and team up with your friends to escape. With over 250 unique perks, players can customize their characters to suit their playstyle, and hopefully increase their chances of winning. As a survivor, a good perk combination can be the difference between escaping or becoming a feast for the entity. With the introductions of iconic and classic characters such as Michael Myers, Pyramid Head, Ellen Ripley, and much more, DBD has become a staple of horror games. Every big update comes new characters, new perks, and new maps; there is always a fresh and frightening update around the corner to keep players intrigued and excited. Death is not an escape.
