Destiny: Rising’s Closed Alpha Test Starts Today, Includes Multiplayer And Story Content

Destiny: Rising, the mobile RPG based on Bungie’s shooter series from NetEase, is kicking off its closed alpha test today, November 1. The test, which requires an invitation, runs until December 5 at 11:59 PM PT.

The alpha test is open to people in the US and Canada. If you haven’t already signed up, you can do so at the Destiny: Rising website for a chance to get in. The test goes live today at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET, so footage is likely to emerge soon.

The closed alpha includes a sampling of content from the full game, including the prologue of the main story campaign, three public events, two strike missions, and access to Gauntlet–this is a raid-like, six-player mode. The alpha also includes the game modes Morgran’s Prey, The Realm of the IX, Legacy, and Shifting Gates, along with “casual activities” set between missions.

In September, the existence of a Destiny mobile game from Bungie and NetEase leaked. It followed from the news in 2018 that NetEase would given Bungie $100 million to make non-Destiny games. Perhaps that arrangement has changed, as Destiny: Rising is definitely a Destiny game, or there might be more in the works between Bungie and NetEase.

In addition to Destiny: Rising, Bungie is working on a survival shooter called Marathon and apparently other projects as well. Bungie underwent significant changes in 2024, including mass layoffs that affected several senior staffers. Additionally, some inside Bungie are joining a new team within parent company Sony to create a new action game.

As for Destiny 2, the game just kicked off its Festival of the Lost event for Halloween.
