Tornado outbreak strikes Oklahoma after midnight

Multiple dangerous tornadoes formed after midnight in Oklahoma, causing significant damage around the state, including near Tinker Air Force Base, Harrah and other parts of the Oklahoma City metro area.

A threat of severe weather remains, including a tornado watch active until 9 a.m. for much of central and eastern Oklahoma. Severe weather is expected to return later Sunday.

Damage being surveyed after storms pass

In Stephens County, a sheriff’s office dispatcher said there were reports of power lines down. Emergency personnel were out in the county assessing any further damage.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to reports of storm damage south of Tinker Air Force Base and in far eastern Oklahoma County near the Kickapoo Turnpike.

Severe weather risk continues Sunday into Monday

The National Weather Service said early Sunday morning that the state will see continued risk of severe weather on Sunday as scattered thunderstorms form in the afternoon and evening hours. Flooding will also be a threat.

The storms will move out of the area on Monday.

Tornado active east of Oklahoma City

A tornado warning was issued for Lincoln County east of Oklahoma City. This includes Wellston.
