EU-US relations after the election of Donald Trump as president

Following the presidential election in the US, MEPs will discuss the future of EU-US relations under the new administration with the Commission, from around 16.30. In the debate, MEPs are expected to raise issues such as support to Ukraine, relations with Russia and China, the crisis in the Middle East, military cooperation, trade and climate change.

Flood tragedy in Valencia: MEPs discuss prevention and EU aid

Following floods in Spain that have taken at least 223 lives, plenary will debate how to improve the EU’s resilience to extreme weather events and support those affected by the disaster, immediately after the opening at 15.00. MEPs will first pay homage to the victims, after which a debate with the Commission will take place. Political groups have agreed to add this topic to the agenda, pending confirmation by the full house at the opening of the session.

COP29: MEPs debate position ahead of global climate negotiations

From around 18.00, MEPs will discuss Parliament’s demands for the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference COP29. A vote on a resolution will take place tomorrow. In the draft text, MEPs want all countries to agree on a new post-2025 collective goal on climate finance. They also encourage all countries to phase out all direct and indirect fossil fuels subsidies as soon as possible and reallocate these resources towards climate action.

Amsterdam attacks. In the evening, MEPs will debate the deplorable escalation of violence around a football match in the Netherlands and the unacceptable attacks against Israeli football fans. Political groups have agreed to add this topic to the agenda, pending confirmation by the full house at the opening of the session.

Russia. In the evening, MEPs will debate with the Commission how to fight money laundering and terrorist financing more efficiently, as well as the need to list Russia as a high-risk third country in the EU.

Georgia. In an evening debate, MEPs will address the outcome of Georgia’s disputed parliamentary elections, including alleged Russian interference. Political groups have agreed to add this topic to the agenda, pending confirmation by the full house at the opening of the session.
