The Worst Mistake That Almost Killed Helldivers 2 isn’t Going Away as COO Still Believes They are the Good Guys

Sony’s biggest mistake seems to be following it still, and it does not seem to be going anywhere. Sony faced a huge challenge during Helldivers 2’s release early this year, but it still does not seem to be learning from its mistakes.

The mistake that almost killed a lot of Helldivers 2’s sales is here to stay, as Sony’s COO, Hitoki Totoki, still believes that they did the right thing by implementing this one feature.

Sony’s Past Mistake With Helldivers 2 Still Lingers On In The Company’s Philosophy

The biggest problem with Sony exclusive titles coming to PC is that it still requires you to create a PSN account to play these games. This feature got a lot of criticism from players initially during the release of Helldivers 2.

Following the massive backlash from the Helldivers 2 community, it was ultimately removed from the game, but other titles still required you to do the same, including God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which both require PSN accounts.

It seems like Sony has not learned anything from its past mistake, which almost killed Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Totoki still believes that Sony is doing the right thing by implementing this. He said:

For the live service games, in order to maintain order of the gaming so that anybody can enjoy the games safely, we need to create an environment conducive to that and, of course, enjoying the game freely.

Totoki feels the company is going in the right direction by implementing this as it enables it to create one more layer of security, but the same argument does not hold up for single-player games.

It is High Time Sony Sets Things Right

Sony has been implementing this annoying feature ever since the company decided to release its exclusive titles on PC in the name of security. On the other hand, it seems like it just still wants to have an upper hand over its titles.

It has been doing this to make it clear that the games still belong to Sony and PC releases are just an extension of what Sony has to offer. It makes complete sense to do it for a live service game because of security concerns, but it is high time now that it gets removed from some of the single player titles.

Players have been criticizing this for a long time for Sony to realise that it is not being appreciated by the majority, and still the company does not feel that it is not in the right. It is high time Sony sets things right and comes up with a better plan to release future exclusives on PC. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
