Apex Legends Players Pay the Ultimate Price After Respawn Bug Causes Matches to Lag Until a New Match Begins

Apex Legends has seen its fair share of challenges and beatdowns lately, from the somewhat controversial ban on Linux OS affecting Steam Deck users to the massive backlash caused by the Battle Pass Changes.

But while the game continues to maintain its familiar cadence still, a new bug, supposedly only on Ranked Matches, has now begun to frustrate players to no end. Those who are already skeptical of Respawn’s ability to maintain this game are going to have a field day with this one.

So, what’s the deal with this new issue? Well, the thing is that in certain ranked matches, upon receiving a respawn by a teammate, the respawned player begins to experience severe lag, to the point of simply becoming useless in the game.

If you need to get respawned in a game, your game will lag permanently until the next game.

What’s interesting is that this horrible rubber-banding, for a lot of cases, doesn’t seem to go away even after restarting the system itself and jumping back in, leading to, as lag always does, significant packet loss, wonky animations, and just overall unresponsiveness.

Interestingly, players not engaging with ranked matches don’t seem to have encountered the problem so far, leading many to believe that the problem is tied to the game mode itself.

What’s worse is that no one is able to identify the root cause of the problem. While a few players have suggested that this sometimes happens when you get respawned at one of the default respawns on the map, there hasn’t been any confirmation of the same either.

Naturally, and as one might expect, most players are disappointed with Respawn and the game once again, especially since this is happening only two weeks after the start of Season 23, as they should be.

Respawn needs to work fast on fixing Apex Legends’ growing list of problems

When you put this newfound bug aside from the already frustrating respawn and revive meta of the game, it’s easy to see why people would once again feel appalled by Respawn’s mishandling of the game.

The mere fact that this one bug is now probably the biggest counter to the Respawn meta says a lot about the game. It is symptomatic of its current state, which has already endured 23 seasons of ups and downs.

Competitive players are, of course, particularly vocal. With ranked play being their bread and butter, they express unbridled frustration that a game with Apex’s pedigree is still struggling with these kinds of bugs years into its lifecycle.

The point is that, after all this time, such problems just shouldn’t be happening in the game, and yet the developers continue to find some way of messing it up. Is Apex Legends’ code running on duct tape and stitches? Only the dev team knows the answer to that.

While Respawn hasn’t implemented a hotfix yet, many within the community hope the issue is addressed swiftly. This still doesn’t change the fact that this game’s problems are starting to run a little deeper than what a simple patch or nerf can fix.
