“One cannot deny that there are memories in that building, memories of my own children. And I really wish that I can actually take one simple picture of them when they were young. I didn’t take anything outside of this home, because I didn’t expect at all that this will be an Israeli target, not for one second. Yesterday I was here, and today I am here, just to search for anything I could bring out, that can remind me of my children.”

The building was home to many families of Lebanese professionals such as doctors and lawyers, residents of the building told Reuters, in what they described as an act of terror on defenseless civilians with no ties to the conflict.

An Israeli airstrike flattened the building near one of Beirut’s busiest traffic junctions on Friday (November 15), shaking the Lebanese capital as Israel kept up its intensified bombardment of Hezbollah-controlled areas of the city.

In one of several airstrikes on Friday morning, the attack struck near the Tayouneh junction, in an area where the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs meet other parts of the city, a more central target than most that Israel has hit.

Israel has this week stepped up airstrikes against the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs – an escalation that has coincided with indications of movement in U.S.-led diplomatic contacts towards ending the conflict.
