MythWalker takes you on a magical journey by walking IRL, out now on iOS and Android
- MythWalker is a geolocation RPG which puts classic fantasy into the real world
- Navigate either using IRL movement, or tap-to-move while sitting at home
- MythWalker is out now on iOS and Android
It seems like nowadays everyone’s trying to walk. Whether that’s for health or to save on gas money and bus fare, using your legs is a trendy thing to do. So it’s no surprise that developers have been capitalising on that too, what with Niantic and their releases such as Monster Hunter Now. But if you’re looking for something new, maybe today’s subject MythWalker is more your (land)speed?
Mixing real-world locations and fantasy battles, you’ll work to save both Earth and the fictional Mytherra. Play as Warriors, Spellslingers and Priests as you battle enemies, explore and navigate the world of MythWalker while taking a walk IRL! Stay healthy and have fun in this new take on the geolocation format.
“But”, you might say, “I can’t, or won’t, leave the house to play this regularly, how can I still play MythWalker?” Well, fortunately, the developers have thought of that, and you can make use of Portal Energy and the Tap-to-move feature to navigate the MythWalker world from the comfort of your own home. Mix and match your real-life walks, but don’t miss out on playing on rainy days either!
A timely arrival(?)
I imagine that MythWalker will find quite a substantial audience. It’s difficult to find geolocation games that aren’t tied to an existing franchise, and having something based in an original universe (such as it is) will be appealing to many of you who are looking for something new, I’d wager.
But at the same time, since the huge success of Pokémon Go it seems many games utilising AR and geolocation have struggled to achieve the same success. Does that mean MythWalker is going to fall apart? Not necessarily, but I’m not sure it’ll rise to the same prominence. But then again what could in today’s world?
