Enough for Black Ops 6? China’s Breakthrough in Storage With 200TB Disc Drive Can End Every PC Gamer’s Memory Nightmare

With the increase in storage requirements for games in recent years, it is high time we get a storage device capable of handling it. Consumers all over the world are eagerly waiting for the next breakthrough that will increase our storage capabilities exponentially.

China’s recent breakthrough in storage will allow you to store up to 200 TB of storage, which is an insane amount even for today’s times. However, this disk drive is yet to be released in the market for regular use due to its complex technology, so you can’t just grab one yet.

Some of the games released in recent times require an insane amount of storage. God of War: Ragnarok, for instance, was criticized for occupying 190 GB of space, whereas the recently released Black Ops 6 requires you to clear up almost 85.56 GB of space via Xbox Game Pass and 128 GB via Steam.

Most computers these days have a minimum of 1 TB of storage, which was once considered to be a lot. However, in recent times, the bar for the same has increased a lot. 1 or 2 TB is still a lot of storage, but it does not account for all your needs. Games are increasingly growing in size with each release, thanks to the technological advancements happening in the gaming industry.

China seems to be thinking way ahead for the future with their latest invention of a disc drive capable of storing 200 TB of data. This is also an effort in the direction of bringing back disk drives, which were once considered to be a simpler form of storing data.

The sci-fi films of the past must have had some influence on some of the technology we are seeing in current times, including China’s latest disk drive that was made possible by stacking hundreds of layers to create a 3D nano-scale optical disk that breaks the optical diffraction barrier, which was limiting how close together recorded features could be. The disk looks extremely cool and is bound to make a huge difference in the market.

The drive is extremely complex, which is one of the major reasons why it will not start rolling out in the market just yet. CD drives had gone completely extinct until China developed this cutting-edge technology.

It will be long before this drive gets put into actual use since there is limited technology in the world currently that might support the disk. There is a need to build infrastructure that supports and makes the most out of this drive before it starts rolling out.

All in all, even if it does not come out anytime soon, it still gives players hope for the future of storage. Hopefully, we need not worry about the increasing storage requirements for games anymore, as China has got all of us covered. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
