Parliament marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

After the opening of the session MEPs and the Commission will debate the state of play and emerging trends in the combat against violence against women in the EU and internationally. On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), they are expected to highlight the persistence of gender-based violence, call on the new Commission to act, and stress the need to tackle the growing backlash against gender equality and women’s rights. Parliament will also join the UN ‘Orange the world’ initiative and light the EP building in Strasbourg orange.

MEPs review results of G20 Leaders’ Summit

From around 18.30, MEPs will review with the Commission the results of the recent G20 summit in Rio, Brazil, where leaders discussed the world’s most pressing challenges including social inclusion, global governance reform, energy transitions, climate action as well as the international economic and political situation.

Biodiversity: MEPs debate outcome of global talks to restore ecosystems

In the evening, plenary will debate with the Commission the outcome of the sixteenth UN Biodiversity Conference in Colombia which assessed the effectiveness of national biodiversity strategies to protect the world’s ecosystems, and progress on financing the Global Biodiversity Framework.
