The Xbox Avatar Editor app is closing ‘due to low engagement’

Microsoft has announced plans to shut the Xbox Avatar Editor app.

Starting on January 9, 2025, it will no longer be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows devices.

In an FAQ, Microsoft said it was closing the app “due to low engagement”.

“This means players will no longer be able to access the Xbox Avatar Editor app on Xbox consoles or PCs, including their Xbox Avatars and any purchased avatar items.

“This will not affect the Xbox Original Avatars, as these will continue to work in supported Xbox 360 games, and you will still be able to edit your Xbox Original Avatars inside the Xbox Original Avatars app on Xbox consoles and Windows devices.”

Xbox Avatar purchases made between November 1, 2023, and January 9, 2025, will be refunded once the app is closed.

Last week Microsoft expanded its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offering by enabling subscribers to play select games they own via cloud streaming.

50 titles are currently supported and the feature is available on PC, phone, tablet, handheld, and most devices with access to a web browser.

More cloud-playable games will be added over time and support for the feature will come to Xbox consoles and the Xbox app for PC in 2025.
