Obsidian’s Game Has Done 1 Thing Right That Puts it in the Same League as Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2

Obsidian’s Avowed is all set to drop in February 2025 as a new title from the veteran RPG studio. It’s the same developer that has given us incredible titles in the past, such as Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and The Outer Worlds, among other phenomenal titles.

Avowed is shaping up to be an incredible game, and fans of the RPG genre are looking for any news they can gather before its release. Obsidian has been drip-feeding gamers news about the RPG, and one thing is quite clear: its visuals are at the same level or even surpass, in some cases, the most stunning games in the industry.

Obsidian’s Avowed is Breathtaking Masterpiece That You Can’t Miss Out On

As video games have continued to evolve as a medium of both entertainment and art, they keep looking better and better. If someone is playing on a high-end PC or average console, it’s not that hard to notice when a game stands out from the competition.

There is no denying the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring are industry leaders when it comes to graphical performance. Seriously, both of these games look like a movie due to how detailed they are and how impressive all the NPCs and landscapes look on consoles and PCs.

Obsidian’s Avowed is still months away from release. Few in the community have gotten their hands on the game’s demo build, and its visuals have grabbed everyone’s attention.

Even though it’s not the final build, the in-game world looks incredibly detailed and features some of the most realistic graphics we’ve ever seen in the gaming world. It already looks like a technical work of art, and it’s going to get even better once the game eventually releases, as it’s very likely that Obsidian will have more visual upgrades for the final build.

What has allowed Obsidian to craft these stunning visuals is Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. In the last couple of years, we’ve seen a number of games moving to the Unreal Engine, which has allowed them to use advanced features to deliver incredible graphics. Even Xbox’s Halo franchise will be jumping to the engine with the next entries in the franchise.

Why Was Avowed Pushed Back to 2025?

Avowed was initially supposed to be released in the Fall of 2024. However, it was later pushed back to February 18th 2025. You’ll be shocked to know that the delay wasn’t due to any development problems or the game needing more time to be refined.

The game was delayed to ease the pressure on it for the Xbox Game Pass. After all, it’s a day-one release for the subscription service, and it would’ve found itself releasing at a time when the service was packed with huge day-one releases such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, STALKER 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

In an interview, the RPG’s director, Carrie Patel, opened up about the game’s release dilemma but stated that it wasn’t a big concern for the team. However, February 2025 has a bunch of game releases that might prove to be troublesome. 

In February, we’ll see the release of both Civilization 7 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also supposed to launch on February 13th, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza is going to hit the shelves in February 2021.

Obsidian’s RPG is stuck right in the middle of these high-profile releases. Sure, it’s hard to avoid other major releases no matter when the title drops, but a January 2025 debut would’ve made more sense, considering it’s significantly less busy.

What will give the game a huge advantage over its competitors is the fact that it’s a day-one release for Game Pass. This will lead to a huge in-built player base, which can be essential for a game’s success, as proven by Black Ops 6.
