Secret Level Choosing Armored Core Over a Royally Ignored Hidetaka Miyazaki Game Could be a Fatal Error in Judgment

Secret Level is one of the most anticipated anthology series at the moment. The creators behind the show are the visionaries of Love, Death + Robots. The series will feature 10 different stories from various video games.

However, Secret Level’s decision to choose Armored Core over the royally ignored Hidetaka Miyazaki game might not have been the best the creators made since this game had all the potential to be turned into an amazing episode.

Armored Core is the weakest of FromSoftware’s games. There is so much scope for developing other games from the studio that the decision to go for this feels almost deliberate. Why someone would like to give leverage to Armored Core over Bloodborne is still a mystery.

The game’s world is not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as Yharnam. Bloodborne is considered one of Miyazaki’s most aesthetically pleasing games. In it, he managed to create an amazing feeling of incarceration while staying true to its grim theme with a pinch of aesthetic satisfaction.

It deserves to be adapted for screen. Secret Level had a chance to pay homage to one of the best titles from Miyazaki; instead, it chose to go with Armored Core. There is a chance that the creators might not have been able to get their hands on Bloodborne due to Sony’s exclusivity policy. This is one of the biggest reasons why we have never seen an official PC port for the game either.

Sony likes to keep its exclusives close to its heart. Maybe Secret Level too became a victim of this policy. However, there are still better games by Miyazaki than Armored Core that are nearly perfect to be adapted for screen.

Secret Level is set to release on December 10th. The series draws along the same lines as Love Death + Robots. The only difference this time around is that the series is based on video games, including Sifu, Warhammer 40K, God of War, and many more.

The series is set to feature the cinematic and innovative storytelling that games deserve. It is bound to open up the world of these games to a wider audience. Not everyone likes to play games, and due to that, a huge section of society is always left out of the amazing stories that some games offer.

Screen adaptation of video games works best due to its ability to transcend its niche audience. Secret Level will aim to do the same for many games. What do you think about the decision to choose Armored Core over Bloodborne? Let us know in the comments below.
