One News Has Already Hinted Why Marvel Rivals Isn’t Coming to Switch 2

Since its release just a few days ago, Marvel Rivals has proven that the hero-shooter genre is not becoming repetitive and still has the potential to attract players. With a robust roster of 33 heroes at launch and engaging combat, the game has allowed fans to play as their favorite Marvel characters, with more joining the battle soon.

Following its success, more players are eager to play, making them curious to know if the game will eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch or its upcoming successor. In an interview, the game director ruled out the possibility of a Switch port, and based on his reasoning, it seems likely that the same challenges will apply to the Switch 2.

Why Marvel Rivals Won’t Make Its Way to the Nintendo Consoles

It is evident that with new devices and consoles, technology is growing rapidly, but so are the game requirements. As the game focuses more on graphical fidelity, low-end hardware is struggling to keep up. While the original Switch is not traditionally low-end, it was released in 2017 and is starting to show its age.

This is the same concern that the game Director Thaddeus Sasser addressed in an interview and explained that currently, there are no plans for Marvel Rivals to come to Switch or mobile devices. Sasser emphasized that the game is built on the UE 5 engine, which powers its sleek visuals, destructible environments, and intense on-screen action.

These features demand a high level of graphical power for a decent period that simply can’t be replicated on current-gen handheld devices like the original Switch. Even the Xbox Series S struggles with performance. Given these requirements, it seems unlikely that the game would make its way to the Switch 2 either, at least not anytime soon.

While leaks and rumors suggest that it will be powerful enough to handle games like these, it’s still a leak and should be taken with a grain of salt. Let’s assume the leaks are accurate and the performance is indeed great, but it still presents a significant number of problems to overcome.

Is There Hope for a Port in the Future?

While the future is uncertain, one thing is clear: for this hope to turn into a reality, the Switch 2 will need to exceed expectations and deliver something extraordinary. This isn’t a jab at Nintendo, as it has consistently demonstrated its capabilities, but it remains a very tall mountain to climb.

The core of the issue lies in maintaining a consistent, smooth playing field for a period of time and across platforms. Since Marvel Rivals thrives on dynamic and visually demanding gameplay, any performance issues (lag or low FPS) or lowered visuals can become a problem for competitive integrity.

For the developers, the goal is always to deliver the same experience across all platforms. While the Switch 2 could theoretically offer more power than its predecessor, the game’s demands may make it a stretch to expect it to run at its full potential.

As we wait to learn more information about the successor to Switch besides its backward compatibility, it will be interesting to see if it could support such graphically intense titles without compromising the experience.

In the end, it’s clear that Marvel Rivals is a game worth playing, but for now, it looks like handheld players may have to wait a few years for the technology to catch up.
