A Sonic Heroes remake is reportedly in development for Switch 2

A remake of 2003 platformer Sonic Heroes is in development for the Switch‘s successor, according to a new report.

According to a report from Universo Nintendo, Sega is working on the remake and is potentially using Unreal Engine 5.

This was then corroborated by Twitter user @MbKKssTBhz5 (aka Midori), a Sega leaker with a track record of Atlus and Persona leaks.

If the claims are true, the Sonic Heroes remake is planned for 2025 and will reportedly be released on Nintendo‘s next system.

Released on GameCube, PS2, Xbox and PC in 2003, Sonic Heroes attempted to upend the typical Sonic formula by putting players in control of a team of three characters,

There are four teams: Team Sonic (consisting of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge and E-123 Omega), Team Rose (Amy, Cream and Big) and Team Chaotix (Espio, Charmy and Vector).

Each team’s trio is split into three ability types – speed, flight and power – and the player has to switch between the characters while playing to make use of their individual abilities to get past each stage’s obstacles.

Each team also has a special Team Blast move, in which all three combine their abilities to deliver a powerful attack that wipes out any nearby enemies on the screen.

Although Sonic Heroes was met with mixed reviews, it has developed a cult following over the years. It has never been remastered or remade in the 21 years since its debut, however.
