Bloodborne 2 Might Not Be Happening Anytime Soon but the Sequel Is Prime to Even Surpass the Terrors of Yharnam With One Addition

It is almost a decade since FromSoftware gave the world a super hit game in the form of Bloodborne. Ever since the game was released in 2015, the developers have maintained their stature as one of the most influential studios in the action RPG genre, particularly their Souls-like genre.

Given the success and the still-running craze for the game, there are numerous players who have been asking for a follow-up to the game. Although FromSoft has stayed mum about the possibilities of a sequel, that hasn’t stopped the fans from theorizing and speculating.

If at all a sequel to Bloodborne ever sees the light of day, fans speculate there is a way how the sequel could connect to the original game, while further delving even deeper into its cosmic horror.

Unsolved Mysteries in Bloodborne

Although the overall narrative of Bloodborne is pretty subtle and can be easily missed, there is one hidden mystery that players can uncover upon investigating. Solving the narrative reveals the tale of the Great One known as the Moon Presence. This has created the Hunter’s Dream and also trapped the player in its cycle.

This Moon Presence is the game’s secret final boss that the players will encounter only after defeating Gehrman with three Thirds of Umbilical Cord. Once defeated it unlocks a conclusion that ends the game on an ambiguous note watching the player being reborn as an infant Great One.

For a discreet story and dark world of a Soulslike game, the “Childhood’s Beginning” conclusion of Bloodborne may seem a little strange. However, on the flip side, it could be seen as a triumphant success of the purpose that multiple characters throughout the game failed at since the player has now finally ascended into a Great One.

Several players have theorized the ending as Flora leading to the origin of beasthood in Yharnam through acting as the moon. That being said, its role is still confined to a singular boss fight. Thus if there is a Bloodborne sequel it could build on this lacking closure. Witnessing the home of the Moon Presence could return some of the original game’s most impressive sections to the sequel.

Bloodborne 2 potential setting

The moon has been central to Bloodborne‘s story. It steps in when fighting Rom, the Vacuous Spider. The Moon Presence appears to descend from it towards the end. If the sequel explores the idea of the protagonist becoming another sort of Moon Presence, then players could witness Bloodborne 2 heading into this dimension that brings a sense of closure similar to that seen in Dark Souls 3’s Soul of Cinder encounter.

The gothic horror of the original Bloodborne characterizes for a while before cosmic horror eventually steps in. Thus, the sequel could initiate from a more eldritch place right from the beginning.

Considering that land in a dream reality such as a potential home of the Moon Presence is used as the main setting for the sequel, players can expect ample twisted creatures and new environmental storytelling that goes beyond the somewhat predictable FromSoft design. Seeing the moon as a barren place come to life in a sequel can provide a whole new dimension to the first game.
