Poconos could see up to 10 inches of snow

A winter storm watch will be in effect Sunday for much of eastern Pennsylvania, including the Poconos.

In Carbon and Monroe counties, 6 to 10 inches of snow is possible, the National Weather Service said Friday afternoon when issuing the watch. For Pike and Wayne counties, 5 to 9 inches is possible, the NWS said.

Earlier on Friday, the NWS had been more uncertain about the forecast. In the afternoon, with better guidance about the low pressure area that will be moving in, the NWS upped its forecast totals for the Poconos.

Across the winter storm watch area, 5 to 8 inches should be expected broadly, with 10 inches possible “especially across the higher terrain,” the NWS said in a Friday afternoon forecast discussion.

Elsewhere in Pennsylvania, an extreme cold watch has been issued for Sunday night through Wednesday morning, as wind chills as low as 25 below 0 are expected.
