Marvel Snap is back online, but Second Dinner aren’t happy and is seeking a new publisher

After a long, arduous few days, Second Dinner’s hit card battler Marvel Snap is back up in the United States. It was briefly made unavailable in the wake of the TikTok ban that affected publisher ByteDance. However, it appears that the developer wasn’t made aware of the move to abruptly stop service, complete with a warning message that the app had been “banned”.

While Second Dinner works to continue putting out fires and address player complaints, they’ve also made the interesting announcement that they’re now actively seeking a new publisher. For the current publisher Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance, this is sure to be a major upset after the well-received release which combines iconic Marvel comic heroes and fast-paced card battles debuted in 2022.

Dinner time

By now you’ve probably read my opinion piece on the subject (and if not, where have you been?) But I did point out that the decision, seemingly taken by ByteDance, to pull both TikTok and many of its gaming releases down without much in the way of prior warning for the latter could, and probably would, backfire.

Second Dinner likely has every right to be angry as a glance at their socials reveals a torrent of angry players missing out on log-in rewards and event gameplay. Even so, the move to then announce they were seeking a new publisher actively speaks to anger behind the scenes at what happened.

It could be months, or even years before a new publisher is secured. But until then the hope will likely be that there isn’t a repeat performance of this recent incident.
