The topic of ecology in fantasy worlds is a complex one. Is it really ethical to slay rare beasties just because you want their loot? If that’s too complex for you, then here comes Huntbound to let you endanger species with the best of them, aided by nothing but your wits, friends, and perhaps an enormous hammer. 

I think the best way to describe Huntbound is to drop the double entendres and say that if you’re looking for a lightweight, 2D Monster Hunter-like, then this is for you. You’ll explore the world, duking it out with enormous beasts and crafting bigger, better weapons to take on more challenging encounters. Sound familiar?

Now, to be clear there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But I think it’s the best way of describing what I see in Huntbound. And with pretty decent-looking, if minimalist, graphics and gameplay, it looks as if it’ll scratch the itch for those of you not wanting to leap into something like Monster Hunter Outlanders.

Gotta’ hunt ’em all

I should also add that while it obviously lacks some of the more intimate features of something such as Monster Hunter, Huntbound has everything you’d really want. You’ve got the upgradable gear, distinct boss monsters and the ability to customise your hunter; not to mention playing with friends, which is always a plus!

Huntbound also gives me some slight, but noticeable, nostalgia for the good old days of side-scrolling beat ’em ups in Flash. So I’d say it’s worth a look, especially if you enjoy the genre; you can find Huntbound on Google Play come February 4th!
