Shadow of the Colossus Sequel Exists but It’s Not From Sony
Fumito Ueda’s Shadow of the Colossus is not just a game, it is considered a piece of art by many and is one of the most influential games in gaming history. The game acted as a catalyst for the success of other popular titles like God of War, Bloodborne, Dragon’s Dogma, etc.
The concept of an open-world game where the player would go and slay stone giants was so unique at the time that it left gamers wanting more. Yet avid fans of the game are still unappeased and are yearning for a sequel.
What’s the imaginary sequel all about?
One devoted fan, TheLonelyHydreigon456 created a detailed sequel plot for the game, complete with bosses and playable characters. Titled Shadow of the Colossus: Revenge of the Beasts, here’s a closer look at its storyline.
The whole sequel takes place 13 years after the events of the first game, where Wander, the protagonist of the previous game, is now a teenager. He lives with Mono, the girl he revived by defeating all the colossi. Together, they reside in the Shrine of Worship.
They were living a quiet, peaceful life until their tranquility was shattered by a sudden explosion that broke into the Shrine. Both Wander and Mono run and hide in the Paradise Garden. After the chaos subsides, Both the characters return to the Shrine and find 30 mysterious idols channeling their energy to imprison a beast.
The beast is eventually revealed to be Trico, a griffin-like beast who is a deuteragonist from the game The Last Guardian. Another character from the same game also joins shortly afterward, the unnamed boy who pleads to Mono and Wander to rescue his friend, imprisoned in the cage of darkness. To free Trico they must defeat all the 30 colossi.
After defeating the first ten colossi, the heroes are joined by two new allies: Ico and Yorda, characters from another GenDesign game, Ico. Ico and Yorda decide to aid the group on their quest to defeat all the colossi.
After the party beats the final colossus, the Queen, the antagonist of Ico, appears to confront the five heroes. In this game, the Queen has been corrupted by Dormin, making her even more dangerous.
During the battle, the group is joined by Lux, a small colossus who assists the group in their fight against the Dormin-infused Queen. After an intense battle, Lux heroically sacrifices himself to ensure the Queen’s defeat. With the Queen vanquished, Trico is finally freed and joyfully reunited with the unnamed boy.
Shadow of the Colossus: Revenge of the Beasts plays out similarly to its predecessor with a mix of swordplay and tricky puzzles, to figure out how to defeat all the 30 colossi. The characters have their own ability to solve each unique puzzle. The two main playable characters, Mono and Wander have a steed of their own, helping them to defeat the colossi and solve puzzles.
Recent developments by GenDesign
There are speculations surrounding a potential project by GenDesign that was teased back in 2018. Nomad Colossus, a prominent source, speculated that GenDesign’s next game might be titled Beauty and the Beast.
GenDesign’s next game was initially called ‘Beauty & the Beast’… at least from the meta data of their first image. If this is true, then Ueda is updating the old concept from the ending of SotC:https://t.co/a4hUhjqA1t

Famous film director, Andy Muscheitti, also wants to continue making a film on SotC. In a recent interview with Muscheitti in a podcast on Radio TU, he expressed his love for the game and how the feature film is a project far from being abandoned. Muscheitti told Radio TU:
Shadow of the Colossus is a cult game, but to make a film well there is a studio that puts the numbers and says how much it is interesting to give the director 200, 150 or 100 million dollars.
The last update to Shadow of the Colossus was a remake of the original game in 2018. This fan-made sequel demonstrates that the game’s dedicated fan base remains eager for a new addition to the series.
