Composition of Parliament’s new committees released | News

The lists of MEPs assigned by the political groups and non-attached members of the European Parliament is now available on Parliament’s plenary homepage. They will also be available on the websites of the respective committees.

MEPs voted on 18 December 2024 to upgrade Parliament’s subcommittees on Security and Defence (SEDE) and on Public Health (SANT) into fully-fledged committees and to set up two new special committees: one on the so-called “Democracy Shield” initiative included in the Commission’s 2024-2029 political guidelines (EUDS), and another to deal with the EU’s current housing crisis (HOUS).

Next steps

The SEDE and SANT constitutive meetings are scheduled for Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 January, respectively. The EUDS and HOUS special committees will hold their constitutive meetings either on Thursday, 30 January, or Monday 3 February, at which point their 12-month term will start.

During these first meetings, each committee will elect its leadership bureau (Chair and Vice-Chairs) in line with Parliament’s rules of procedure.

Background

The changes to Parliament’s committee architecture were proposed by President Metsola and the leaders of Parliament’s political groups to address Europe’s current challenges as well as Parliament’s own priorities, taking into account citizen concerns and the results of the European elections:
