Blizzard Is Forced to Temporarily Banish Hex of Whisper After It Causes Stability Issues in Diablo 4 Season 7

Season 7 of Diablo 4 is underway and things have been looking pretty good. The Season of Witchcraft finally came out on January 21st and it brought a ton of new features including new enemies, bosses, Legendary Aspects, and Uniques. Despite this though, there are already some game-breaking bugs that have needed to be hotfixed by Blizzard.

Blizzard Entertainment has temporarily disabled the Hex of Whispers Witchcraft power that was added as part of the new update. This was part of a new hotfix that solved another big bug with a different part of the game. According to the hotfix, it was causing some stability problems. We can expect a fix soon though.

Diablo 4‘s new update is great, but it’s got some bugs

Season 7 of Diablo 4 was released on January 21, 2025. And it brought a whole lot of changes, including the introduction of Witchcraft Powers inspired by the Diablo 3 Witch Doctor class. And one of the new Witchcraft Powers is the Hex of Whisper, a Growth and Decay Power that players can get by progressing the seasonal questline and upgrading the Tree of Whispers’ altars.

What the ability does is that it deals Shadow damage to enemies and becomes sort of like a chain attack that can bounce on up to six enemies. At Rank 7, the ability bounces back to you once it has hit six enemies and cleanses you of all negative effects and crown control.

Because of this useful utility, the Hex of Whisper has been a staple in a lot of early builds in Season 7. But it would seem that it was causing a lot of irregular stability issues because Blizzard disabled it in the recent HOTFIX 1 – January 22, 2025 – 2.1.0. While there have been no major complaints from players, it must be pretty game-breaking for the devs to disable it entirely.

The hotfix also addressed a bug that players did find regarding one of the new uniques. The Barbarian class’ Mantle of Mountain’s Fury Unique had a bug where the Earthquake explosion was doing no damage. Players raised complaints immediately and that is how the hotfix came to be.

The new Season is the perfect time for Path of Exile 2 players to come back

Despite the setback, Season 7 is still a big update and players have been enjoying it a lot. One thing that players are definitely enjoying is the abundance of loot in Season 7. With Path of Exile 2‘s recent dominance, players will find respite in Diablo 4 from PoE 2‘s loot scarcity.

The new season really is a big turning point for the game and the devs. Outside of the Witchcraft Powers, the update includes a lot of other content. We have new gameplay mechanics like Headhunts and the Headrotten enemies, players can now earn favor with the Coven to unlock new abilities, and we also have the new Occult gems that socket into our equipment to improve our new abilities.

For now, we don’t know when the Hex of Whispers will be enabled again. But if Blizzard’s reaction time to the Barbarian Mantle of Mountain’s Fury bug was any indication, it’s likely that we won’t have to wait for very long.
