Firefighters battle four emergency level bushfires in Arthur River, Narrikup, Yilgarn and Bremer Bay

Firefighters are battling four out-of-control, emergency level bushfires in the Wheatbelt and Great Southern.

Aerial crews have been sent in to help firefighters battle an uncontained fire in Arthur River, with people in the area urged to flee as the blaze threatens lives and homes.

The uncontained blaze was reported about 1pm on Friday, sparking an emergency warning at 2.35pm.

People in the area bounded by Collie Lake King Road to the north, Warup South Road to the east, Beaufort Road to the south and Albany Highway to the west in the Shire of West Arthur have been told that they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.

The fire is moving fast in a south-easterly direction as units from nearby volunteer fire brigades and the Shire of West Arthur fight to contain it.

Delyanine Road has been closed and other roads may be closed with authorities advising motorists to avoid the area.

People in Narrikup have also been told to flee as firefighters battle an out-of-control bushfire about 17km south of Mt Barker in the Great Southern.

The unpredictable blaze, which was reported about 1pm on Friday, is moving fast in a north-easterly direction, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services issuing an emergency warning at 1.48pm.

People in the area bounded by Yellanup Road, Albany Highway, Townshend Road and Watermans Road in the Shire of Plantagenet have been told to act immediately to survive.

A DFES spokesperson said there were 14 appliances on the scene, with volunteers from surrounding areas and career firefighters from Albany helping to contain the blaze.

Yelllanup Road has been closed and authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area.

Residents in Yilgarn have been told it’s “too late to leave” as a raging blaze continues to move fast in a south-easterly direction.

An emergency warning is in place for people in an area between Emu Fence Road, King-Ingram Road and Marvel Loch-Forrestania Road and the Mount Holland Mine.

King-Ingram and Marvel Loch-Forrestania are closed and more than 1000 hectares have been burnt since the fire started at 7pm on Wednesday.

A fire burning near Bremer Bay has impacted evacuation routes.

People in the warning zone area bounded by Reef Beach Road, Borden Bremer Bay Road, Warramurrup Road, including Reef Beach in parts of Bremer Bay and Boxwood Hill in the Shire of Jerramungup have been told it’s too late to leave.

The fire, which was first reported just after 11.30am on Friday, has closed Dillon Bay Road and Warramurrup Road.

DFES have urged those closer to the coastline in an area bounded by Borden Bremer Bay Road, Warramurrup Road, and Dillon Bay Road to leave now for a safer place if the way is clear.

A raging bushfire was threatening lives and homes in Northam earlier on Friday but has since been downgraded to a watch and act alert.

Residents bounded by Spencers Brook Road, Wellington St West, Morrell Street and Jacamar Drive have still been urged to stay alert.
