Community to ‘lock their doors and use caution,’ sheriff says

A manhunt is underway in Middle Tennessee after a welfare check Tuesday afternoon in Robertson County led to a grisly discovery and triggered lockdowns at multiple schools.

Deputies were called to Fisher Grove Road and found a “deceased male” inside a residence, Robertson County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jessica Drake said.

Investigators believe a domestic situation occurred between a stepdad and stepson, resulting in the death. It was not immediately clear how the person was killed or how long he had been dead.

Police are searching for Jimmy Anthony Cox in connection with the case. He is believed to be on foot in the area.

Four Robertson County Schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday.

“Our primary concerns occurred during dismissal hours. Upon the advice of the (Robertson) County Sheriffs Office, we were unable to run a couple of bus routes due to areas that were being searched,” Robertson County Schools Director Danny Weeks said.

“We sent a message to these parents on these routes that we would hold those students at school or they could come get their students. If the parents were unable to come get their children, the law enforcement officials were going to provide police escorts to our buses to deliver on those roads.”

Weeks said he visited each of the four schools ― Watauga Elementary, Greenbrier Elementary, Greenbrier Middle and Greenbrier High ― during dismissal hours and reported that everything went smoothly.

School messages were also sent to the impacted families, he said.

Cox is considered dangerous, and the public is advised to lock their doors and use caution, Drake said.

The suspect is described as standing 6 feet, one inch tall, weighs about 175 pounds with blue eyes. He is bald, has several tattoos on his arms and was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts, Drake said, noting that anyone seeing a person matching Cox’s description should call 911 immediately.

The Robertson County shooting is the second fatal shooting to occur in the greater Nashville area Tuesday. A second investigation is underway in the Berry Hill area and is believed to have originated around The Mall at Green Hills.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details as they become available.
