Alan Wake 2 is Making an Unthinkable Approach to Video Games That Shakes the Foundation of Gaming Industry

Alan Wake 2 is an incredibly good-looking game. It shows how much work developer Remedy Entertainment put into this title. One thing that fans appreciated even more than its visuals was its story. This game is a prime example of how a narrative survival horror game should be presented to gamers. Juggling with two separate characters and still maintaining that fear factor can definitely be challenging.

Maybe that’s why it received universal critical acclaim upon its launch. It even ended up winning a bunch of awards. Remedy is pretty well known for making these kinds of games. Well-written, fun to play, and insanely good to look at, they have been leaders in making such complete packages. Now, it appears they are leading the way in yet another manner.

Developers usually do a lot of work before they can give their game a green signal for launch. This means fans do not know a lot of stuff that they have been doing behind the scenes. They go through a bunch of ideas and discard a few to make sure they are left with the best.

As a first-of-its-kind initiative, Remedy Entertainment has decided to give their fans just that. A look into their way of working through a game. To do so, they have announced bi-weekly streams on Twitch and YouTube.

Through these streams, they would give their fans a good look at the making of Alan Wake 2. Through these streams, they aim to introduce their fans to the complexities of making a game. They also aim to try to bring a bit more transparency between fans and the developers.

During the streams, they would casually ask the developers of the game to share an interesting glimpse into the game’s development. They would also feature interviews with different developers that would give gamers insight into Alan Wake 2’s various aspects.

Remedy’s senior community manager, Vida Starević, is pretty enthusiastic about this innovative move. She suggests that through these streams’ fans would be able to appreciate the game more as they get a better look at its development process.

“Alan Wake 2 is also the most complex project Remedy has released so far, and, for good reason, there is often no space to show all that complexity in the process of development. With this series, we aim to create that space.”

Communications director Thomas Puha will be hosting Episode 0 of this series. He is pretty hyped for it too; he suggests that it is interesting to see how a big-budget game is developed. But there’s a lack of sources that show anything of this nature. That’s what they are trying to do.

One can’t help but wonder if this is just the way for Remedy to increase the sales of their game. As many are aware, Alan Wake 2 has yet to break even, even though it was made on a pretty big budget.

Alan Wake 2’s DLC is also coming later this year

Besides trying to make sure this game sells better, there are chances Remedy is doing this to make sure the game’s DLC gets the exposure it deserves. It would not be surprising if they decided to talk about it during one of their streams.

This DLC was previously teased by Alan Wake 2 director, writer, and creative director Sam Lake. He simply posted a picture of himself in a motion-capture suit. Rumors suggest that it will launch sometime in October, which means this is the right time for them to start talking about it a bit.
