Alan Wake 2 Needs to Consider Steam Release on Priority as Remedy’s Sequel Yet to Turn a Profit After its Controversial Move

Alan Wake 2 was a major recent release and has garnered numerous awards and widespread love from players. Despite this, Remedy Entertainment Studio has yet to recoup the game’s production costs. The game’s captivating narrative and engaging gameplay have contributed to its popularity, but it has not been without controversy.

The decision to only sell the game as a digital-only release has been a significant point of conflict among players. Recent earnings reports suggest that these controversies may have impacted the game’s profitability, as it has yet to break even on its budget.

Is Alan Wake 2’s Steam release soon?

Alan Wake 2 not making profit yet
Alan Wake 2 is still not profitable for Remedy

Remedy Entertainment’s Q1 earning report showed that the company is not making a profit but there are many factors for that. The biggest one is the acquisition of Control which is very good for their future. The second reason seems to be Alan Wake 2 still hasn’t made its production cost back. The game has sold millions of digital copies since its release in October 2023 but with no Steam release and physical copies, the game is yet to make that profit.

Remedy Entertainment is still positive and has been thinking about the future as they now have 2 big IPs Alan Wake and Control in their hands. The next move for Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 has to be the Steam release as it will open up a whole new road for new players.

The physical release is still in question as the CEO, Tero Virtala, didn’t mention anything about that but many fans are still hopeful. The physical release seems not a very big issue for most players but there are still a few who would love a physical copy for their collection or don’t want to download games.

Remedy is already in production of DLCs for Alan Wake 2

During the earnings review, CEO Tero Virtala was very focused on the future and how now they have 2 big and established franchises to work on. As of right now, there are many DLCs in the work for Alan Wake 2 which will be released this year or so on.

The recent Alan Wake remastered is also doing well 2 years after its release and making a profit for them. Even though, it is concerning that Alan Wake 2 is still not profitable, the game has been well-received and it’s only a matter of time before they will start making the profit.

The new multiplayer Control spin-off is also in full production as well as many other games will get their remastered or next sequel soon. Remedy is hoping to make a profit on Alan Wake 2 and overall in their business within this year.

The new game which has the potential to go into full production after Alan Wake 2‘s DLCs is most likely to be a Max Payne remake, Control 2 and many others. Remedy Studio has a lot of work to do and will most likely be back in the green soon with these potential hits.
