Elden Ring‘s vast and treacherous world offers numerous challenges for players to overcome in return for glorious rewards. Among these is the bizarre Great Jar, a colossal stationary jar guarding a ruined castle in the poison-laced Caelid region.

This jar offers up a challenge where the player has to defeat three knights consecutively without leaving the area of backing out to a Site of Grace. It’s quite tough, but one player has figured out an ingenious loophole to “cheese” the challenge effortlessly.

How The Great Jar Challenge Works, And What It Rewards

Reaching the Great Jar is no easy feat. While initially visible from a distance, attempting to jump down from the cliffside above leads to a swift demise. The key lies in the Siofra River Well, located in Mistwood near the Minor Erdtree. Descending this elevator transports players to the underground Siofra River.

Here, travelling northwards will show you another elevator that ascends back to Caelid. After emerging above ground, follow the path and eliminate the bow-wielding giants along the way. This path ultimately leads you to the imposing figure of the Great Jar.

The Great Jar itself offers no verbal response, but three summon signs appear behind you upon interacting with it. These signs summon ‘Knights of the Great Jar’ for a series of duels, but with a novel mechanic. Online players face Knights wielding randomized equipment sets based on those of other real players.

Offline players, however, face Knights with pre-determined builds, namely a Mage, a Dexterity Warrior, and a Strength Warrior. Upon defeating all three Knights, the Great Jar honors you with the Great-Jar’s Arsenal Talisman, which increases your maximum equip load by a substantial 19%.

As is typical with FromSoftware fans, one Elden Ring player figured out a hilariously simple yet brilliant method to win the challenge without swinging their weapon at the Knights even once. Posted on the r/eldenring community on Reddit, the clip shows a highly effective cheese method for the Great Jar challenge.

It’s basically a matter of getting the enemy Knight stuck against the invisible white wall that barricades you into the play area, and then luring it towards the edge of the cliff face as you drop to a protruding section.

The Knight will continually try to attack you and at some point, shift forward and fall to its demise à la Kratos at the end of God of War (2005). This method can be reproduced with the subsequent enemy Knights as well, and net you the Talisman in less than a minute and a half if the attempt is pitch perfect.

The Great Jar’s challenge is undeniably unique and somewhat funny considering it’s offered by a literal big jar, but offers a rewarding experience for players who dare to face it in a legitimate manner.
