“I was just driving and this guy was flying up on my tail end, starts flipping me off in the mirror,” the injured driver in a work van told dispatchers in a 911 call. “I put my arm like ‘What I do?’ and he then gets on the side of me and points a gun at me.”

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, the caller said after that, he also pulled out a gun and the two drivers fired shots.

“I shot back at him and he hit me,” the driver said.

He told dispatchers that he continued driving, eventually getting onto US 35 before getting off at Woodman Drive and pulling over in a parking lot. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Captain Scott Molnar said he was expected to be released from the hospital at some point today.

Police said they could not determine if his injury was the result of a bullet or debris.

The man’s van had several bullet holes in it from the exchange.

Police also got in contact with the other driver involved. He was not injured, but his Ford hatchback had been hit by multiple rounds.
