Is a Potential Missing Feature Going to Kill GTA 6’s Hype?

GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated game right now. Rockstar’s GTA series has been dominating the gaming space for a while now, and the same is expected from the next installment. While Rockstar has promised to deliver crème de la crème with GTA 6, one thing they certainly need to do is to include single-player DLC for the game.

The last Rockstar game to receive a single-player DLC was L.A. Noire, more than 13 years ago. Even heavy hitters such as RDR2 or GTA 5 did not get any single-player DLC, which begs the question of whether Rockstar is going to break the trend and go back to the roots of what made the franchise great.

It’s no surprise that Rockstar has pivoted away from single-play DLCs and mainly focused on online expansions. When games such as GTA 4 and L.A. Noire got their DLCs, offline gaming was mainstream, and an internet connection with high speed wasn’t as common. It’s primarily the reason L.A. Noire got multiple DLCs, whereas recent Rockstar games haven’t received even one.

It’s worth noting that there was a single-player DLC planned for GTA 5, which was scrapped eventually. Since then, Rockstar has solely focussed on online DLCs for their last two recent games, GTA 5 and RDR2. That said, the online expansions have done very well, which is one of the primary reasons Rockstar hasn’t decided to go back to single-player DLCs.

While the list of demand for features everyone wants to see in GTA 6 keeps getting longer, single-player DLC would certainly add another level of appeal to the game. Single-player DLCs were instrumental in the success of games like GTA 4 and L.A. Noire, and a potential addition of DLC to GTA 6 will be a pleasant surprise.

Keep in mind that online DLCs are a major source of revenue for Rockstar, so you can expect them in GTA 6 as well. Furthermore, Rockstar has yet to address whether single-player DLCs will be a part of GTA 6 or not.

Apart from offering players additional storylines and missions that extended the narrative universe of the base game, these DLCs were pivotal in extending the shelf life of the games. As mentioned before, online gaming was prevalent at that point, so regularly updating games with content wasn’t possible.

L.A. Noire received several DLCs, which included The Naked City and A Slip of the Tongue. These DLCs were well-received because they added meaningful content to the game, providing players with more investigative challenges.

Unfortunately, we didn’t see any single-player DLC for GTA 5 or RDR2, despite there being a lot of potential to do so. Characters like Michael and Trevor could make use of deeper storylines, which can be explored using single-player DLCs.
