The mystery of who co-developer Mario & Luigi: Brothership has been solved. It has been uncovered that Acquire worked on the development of the game alongside Nintendo.

“Nintendo and Acquire are the authors of this software for the purposes of copyright,” a copyright notice on the game reads. It’s also been revealed that the game was developed in Unreal Engine 5 after copies of the game were spotted in the wild.

If the name Acquire sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same studio that worked with Square Enix on Octopath Traveler. The studio also worked on franchises like Way of the Samurai and Tenchu.

It’s worth noting that neither Nintendo nor Acquire have confirmed the information. With the game set to release for Nintendo Switch on November 7, confirmation seems to be only a matter of time.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is the sixth main game in the Mario & Luigi series. Not only is it the debut of the series on the Nintendo Switch, but it’s the first main release since 2015’s Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. It’s also the first to not be developed by AlphaDream. The former developer went bankrupt and subsequently shut down in 2019.
