After Years, Blizzard Changed a Critical Overwatch 2 Feature as Players “Weren’t Earning Enough”
While Blizzard might not have much going for themselves right now, the release of Overwatch 2’s season 10 and the changes it brings might just freshen things up for the better. The new season of the game comes with a lot of rework, a new agent, and much more to be explored by the player, finally setting the game on the right track for once.
However, one of the major changes the studio has introduced is how they plan to be more generous with the distribution of coins to players, allowing them to gain more free coins than ever possible before in the game.
Season 10 has truly been a game changer for the game, as more players are opting to finally come back than ever. As mentioned before, one of the major changes this season brings is how it will be distributing coins more generously than previously observed. Talking about the same, the game director of Overwatch 2, Aaron Keller, revealed via GameSpot–
“We want the game to feel like it’s rewarding people’s play time. So when we looked at the data, we saw that they weren’t earning enough, and putting them in the battle pass now is going to make it a more consistent experience for them. The intent is for it to be a more generous experience for them. And when you look at it, for a free battle pass, being able to earn 600 coins is actually a lot. Every two seasons, without ever paying for a battle pass, players will be able to earn a new one plus some additional coins.”
Keller ultimately disclosed how the studio felt the game was not rewarding people for the time they invested in the game accordingly. This is what led them to decide to distribute more free coins through the free battle pass moving forward.
However, a fresh coin distribution system is not the only new thing fans will get to experience as the game has added another agent by the name of Venture to the list of characters players can choose to play from.
One of the greatest traits of the new Overwatch 2 character, Venture, is how they are the first Trans and Non-Binary character that Bethesda has ever introduced to the game. The addition of Venture helps the studio take a step closer to the rule of inclusion and makes the title a safe space for every single player. Another interesting fact about them is how they are the first dual-nationality agent in the game, being Mexican-Canadian.
Furthermore, apart from embracing their identity for the whole world to see, Venture also brings to the table a whole new set of abilities that can potentially switch up the current meta for the better.
Overwatch 2 is available to download on Steam.
