Albany Junior Soccer Association claim under-17 girls title, U-12 and U-14 girls make grand finals
Albany Junior Soccer Association completed another strong country week, headlined by the under-17 girls side which clinched the title in Perth last week.
Ten teams represented Albany at the annual week-long tournament which draws regional teams to Kingsway Reserve, with the U-17 girls winning the title and two other AJSA sides finishing runners-up.
The U-17 girls finished top of the McCallum division and qualified for the grand final before downing Leeuwin Naturaliste JSA with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Star defender Shelley Thompson was named fairest and best for the U-17 competition after a stellar campaign for the title winners.
After brilliant tournaments respectively, the U-12 and U-14 girls sides each made the grand final on Friday but fell to tough defeats in their deciders.
The U-12s finished top of the Foord ladder but lost to Country Coastal JSA 1-0 in the grand final.
The U-14s finished undefeated to top the Kerr division but lost the final on penalties to Country Coastal.
The U-11 gold girls team finished fourth in the Taggart division while the U-11 green team came sixth in the Circati division.
In the U-13 Burgess division, Albany gold came fourth and the Albany green team was fifth in the O’Neill league.
The AJSA U-15 gold finished sixth in the Risdon division while the AJSA green side ended up ninth of the Lazaridis division.
In the U-17 Sainsbury competition, Albany enjoyed a terrific week to finish third.
