All These Doctor Who Blu-rays And DVDs Are Hella Cheap For Prime Day

Some people will tell you it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, but it’s certainly not true for all good things. Some stuff you really can never get enough of–like seasons of Doctor Who, or massive sales events on Amazon. Fortunately for all of us, the annual Prime Day sale on Amazon is under way, and it includes huge savings on a pile of Doctor Who Blu-rays and DVDs. Sounds like a party.

The group of discs that have been marked down for Prime Day is pretty massive and includes an expansive cross-section of the long-lived BBC series–we’ve got lots of seasons starring folks like Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee from the 1970s and ’80s, as well as the complete runs of more recent Doctors like Jodie Whitaker, Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, and so on. It’s not every series of Doctor Who, but it certainly is a lot of them. And with the streaming landscape continuing to evolve in unpredictable ways, it’s not the worst idea to invest in physical media a little bit.

For the uninitiated, Doctor Who originally aired all the way back in 1963, focusing on an alien being known as Time Lord, who rides around in a time-traveling spaceship that looks like an old-timey blue British police phone booth, helping regular folks out and running afoul of more nefarious aliens. One of the conceits of the series is that whenever the Doctor is killed, they reincarnate in a new body–this means that every iteration of Doctor Who is the same person, and the entire 60-year run of the series has been one long story.

Among these collections on sale is that of Jodie Whitaker, who recently served as the first female iteration of the Doctor, and the thirteenth overall. But the real gem is likely the Christopher Eccleston & David Tennant Collection. Doctor Who was originally canceled in 1989, and Eccleston and Tennant were the first two Doctors in the revival of the series that began in 2005. Eccleston’s reign was short but sweet, and Tennant is a popular pick for favorite Doctor after a five-year run, and between the two there’s a shocking amount of content on that 12-disc set.
