Amarillo man dies in Oklahoma crash involving 2 motorcycles

An Amarillo man died after a crash involving two motorcycles Tuesday in Oklahoma.

According to the LeFlore County Journal, Brian Rhodes, 51, of Amarillo was driving a 2016 BMW motorcycle east on Highway 1, three miles north of Big Cedar, at about 11:30 a.m. when a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Dirk Ross, 26, of Broken Bow, went left of center, striking Rhodes’ motorcycle.

Rhodes was flown to Baptist Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he was pronounced dead, authorities confirmed.

Ross was flown to UAMA in Little Rock, Arkansas in critical condition.

Both drivers were wearing helmets on the two-lane, divided asphalt of the highway, and weather conditions were dry and clear.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, state troopers along with the Big Cedar Fire Department, Leflore County Sheriff’s Office and Leflore County EMS responded to the scene.

Authorities said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
