Amidst All the GTA 6 Teases, Rockstar is Secretly Working on One of Its Overlooked Classics

In the shadow of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), Rockstar Games appears to be quietly rekindling interest in one of its older titles. Originally released in 2006, Bully took Rockstar’s signature open-world gameplay and scaled it down to a schoolyard setting. It was a hit because almost two decades later, fans still love it.

The title is now reportedly receiving some long-overdue attention. With its recent release on the studio’s GTA+ service and this new rumor, Rockstar is possibly working to improve the game’s PC port which has been forever plagued with bugs.

Rockstar Has Made a Lot of Moves Before GTA 6

The news began circulating when keen-eyed fans noticed updates to Bully: Scholarship Edition on Steam. A new development branch labeled “qabeta” appeared on SteamDB, the first update to the game’s PC version in over a decade.

Rockstar hasn’t announced anything but fans are speculating that the update aims to address long-standing technical issues plaguing the PC port, which has been notorious for crashes and compatibility problems.

The game is often described as GTA reimagined for school life. Players take on the role of Jimmy Hopkins, a mischievous teenager navigating cliques, and dodging bullies and teachers. Unlike GTA, where chaos is king, Bully’s antics are grounded in juvenile rebellion.

Over the years, the game has achieved cult status but has largely remained ignored by Rockstar. With the game’s addition to GTA+ earlier this year, any kind of updates to the game will be welcomed by the community, especially as we wait for GTA 6.

The timing of this update aligns with Rockstar’s plans to bring next-gen GTA Online features to PC in 2025. Fans are speculating that Rockstar might not just be patching bugs but could also be preparing a remastered version of the game.

For many, it’s more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The game’s unique setting and themes set it apart from the likes of GTA and Red Dead Redemption. It captured the essence of school life with a mix of humor and heart in a world filled with quirky characters, mechanics, and subtle social commentary.

The potential update to the game comes at a time when Rockstar is doubling down on its legacy games. Titles like GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and Red Dead Redemption have received their own updates or remasters in the last few months.

While a sequel remains unlikely in the foreseeable future, the attention to Bully suggests that Rockstar hasn’t entirely forgotten about the mischievous exploits of Jimmy Hopkins.

Do you think we’ll actually get a new update to this classic? Let us know in the comments!
