Another cold front is ahead. Here’s when it will finally warm up in Corpus Christi.

A second city-run shelter is open, ahead of another cold front predicted by meteorologists.

Although warmer weather is believed to be on the horizon for the weekend, the National Weather Service’s forecast on its website shows temperatures Thursday night into Friday dropping to lows in the 30- to 40-degree range.

City officials announced in a news release late Wednesday that in addition to a 24-hour shelter at the Corpus Christi Natatorium, another has been opened at the FEMA dome located on the Del Mar College West Campus, 4101 Old Brownsville Road.

Christalinda Miller, a case manager with the Corpus Christi Municipal Court, offers a plate of food to an occupant of an overnight cold weather shelter at the Corpus Christi Natatorium on Monday, Jan. 21, 2025.

Both it and the natatorium, located at 3202 Cabaniss Parkway, are open throughout the day Thursday and overnight Thursday into Friday, according to city officials.

Each is expected to close around mid-morning Friday, city spokesman Robert Gonzales wrote in an email to the Caller-Times.

Free transportation

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority is providing no-cost bus service to and from both shelters through 11 p.m. Thursday, according to the news release.

It lists options for those seeking shelter via the RTA. Pets can also be transported, but must be secured, the release states.

For the FEMA dome

Boarding at the North Staples Street station and taking Route 16.

For the natatorium

Boarding at the North Staples Street station. A bus is dedicated to making runs to the location.

Boarding at the Port Ayers station and taking Route 15 to the Carroll High School, located at Saratoga Boulevard and Kostoryz Road.  The RTA has a shuttle at that stop for transportation to natatorium.

Another option for no-cost transportation is through the Corpus Christi Police Department. Arrangements can be made by calling the non-emergency line at 361-886-2600, the news release states.

Warmer weather, possible rain ahead

While Friday night is forecast to remain chilly — the lows ranging from the 30s through the 40s, according to the website of the local NWS office — temperatures are predicted to steadily rise in the coming days.

Daytime highs are expected to reach the 50s on Friday, then the 60s and 70s on Saturday and Sunday, according to a graphic posted by the local NWS on social media.

Nighttime lows on Saturday, Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the 50s, the graphic shows, with Sunday forecast to offer a 30% to 40% chance of rain.
