Anthony Albanese’s agenda faces another blow with Coalition rejecting paid super on PPL
Anthony Albanese’s efforts to get his legislative agenda across the line this year has been dealt another blow with the Coalition backflipping on support for another key measure.
Deputy leader Sussan Ley on Wednesday announced the Coalition would move amendments to the government’s Bill to pay superannuation on paid parental leave.
Instead, the Coalition wants to give new parents the option of a lump sum payment or additional weeks off work in lieu of superannuation on paid parental.
“We trust parents to be able to make the choices that suit them and their families, and the option is still there under our plan for them to put that money into superannuation,” Ms Ley told Sky News.
On Tuesday, the Coalition pulled support for the government’s reform of the Reserve Bank of Australia and held up progress of the overhaul of the aged care system.
