Arcane Beating Hollywood With $250M Budget is Proof GTA and Red Dead Redemption Movie is Possible

Arcane’s enormous budget resulted from Riot wanting to have full control over the development process of the animated series so that it remains true to the core of League of Legends.

Riot’s approach toward game adaptations has proved to be quite beneficial as well. Arcane’s success proves that the future for video game adaptations is bright and that a movie about GTA or Red Dead Redemption is quite possible sometime in the future

Arcane is Riot’s one of the biggest successes, even though it was earlier believed that the animated series was budgeted too high to be true. It even beats some of the large-scale Hollywood movies as it was budgeted at approximately $250 million, a massive amount for an anime production.

The reason for this enormous figure is due to Riot’s attempt to have full control over its development. Riot is mainly a game studio and is not well accustomed to the workings of a professional film and television studio, so it took the team at Riot more time and resources to finish this ambitious project.

Alex Seaver, Arcane’s executive music producer, shared insights on why the second season of Arcane had such a huge budget. He also thanked the showrunner Christian Linke for discovering Fortiche productions. He said:

We didn’t lease out the work to traditional people in film and television, which can totally work. But for something like this, the special sauce is that it’s made in the building and we do all the animation in Paris at Fortiche, but they’re kind of like us now. We’ve been working with them for five or six years on some of our biggest music beats.

The only collaboration that was outsourced was with Fortiche, which is an animation production studio based out of Paris. The team at Fortiche is behind the spellbinding and stylistic animation style of Arcane that helped the series to stand apart.

Red Dead Redemption has so much scope to be adapted for screen, largely due to the emotional depth of its story and its setting. The game is set in the cowboy era with a lot of scope for a movie adaptation.

Similarly, a GTA film would be a great watch as well. The game has a huge player base, and tapping into the film market will do the game well in the long run.

These titles have not got a movie adaption yet despite having endless potential, but we never know what lies in the future. Taking the same approach as Riot did with Arcane will also enable Rockstar to have full creative control over the adaptation so that it remains true to its inspiration.
