The Black Samurai controversy was one of the most heated topics for debate initially. Ubisoft has always been known to mix historical facts with a fictional narrative to make things interesting in its games. However, more often than not this approach results in hurting the sentiments of some people.

A similar thing happened with Assassin’s Creed Shadows as well. The upcoming game, which is set in Japan, follows the story of 2 protagonists, including Yasuke, a Black samurai. People felt that this was a forced attempt by Ubisoft to appear more woke and inclusive, whereas others were quite happy with this decision.

As far as the historical accuracy of all this goes, it seems like Yasuke was an African man who served under Japanese daimyo Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century, and his role is well documented. However, people are now slowly forgetting about it, especially after being enamored by its gameplay and fighting mechanics.

The gameplay is making headlines at the moment. Ubisoft has a long road ahead to prove that it can deliver a good game despite some of the underwhelming performances in the past. The game is getting a lot of positive buzz at the moment

Some of the previous Assassin’s Creed games of recent years have failed to live up to the expectations of the players, and now Ubisoft has been presented with another opportunity to change the narrative and shift the winds in its favor. Ubisoft has also taken a different approach to map exploration.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first game from the franchise to be set in feudal Japan and also features 2 protagonists with different storylines. By doing so, Ubisoft aims to offer a unique experience.

The upcoming game’s unique setting and interactive gameplay might enable Ubisoft to crawl its way into the good books of people once again. The game does show promise, and only time will tell what the future has in hold for it. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
