Assassin’s Creed Shadows Won’t Be On Last-Gen Consoles

When Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches later this year, it’ll mark a new era for the franchise as it won’t be released on last-gen consoles.

According to multiple reports, including from notable insider Shinobi602, Assassin’s Creed Shadows won’t release on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. That means the game will be available only on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It marks the first time since those consoles launched in 2013 that the latest Assassin’s Creed games won’t be available on the platform.

Last year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage released on all platforms aside from the Nintendo Switch.

Back in 2022, Ubisoft first mentioned that Assassin’s Creed games starting with Red, now Shadows, would be built for “current-gen consoles”. It appears now, however, that the plans remain in place for that to happen.

“Starting with Assassin’s Creed Codename RED, games will be built specifically for current-gen consoles; the extra time in between allows the development teams to improve their Anvil engine to deliver a more polished experience,” the company said.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled to launch in the fall 2024. The game’s first official cinematic trailer is coming on May 15 with a full gameplay reveal planned for Ubisoft Forward on June 10.
