Atari 2600 Lego Set Gets $80 Discount At Amazon
The Lego Atari 2600 is discounted to $160 at Amazon and Target this week. Normally $240, the 2,532-piece Lego set is routinely sold out at major retailers, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see both retailers sell out before the promotion officially ends. The Atari 2600 is one of 60-plus Lego sets on sale for at least 20% off at Target this week.
The Atari 2600 is most affordable of the three Lego sets celebrating retro video game hardware. The Nintendo Entertainment System and Pac-Man Arcade kits very rarely budge from their $270 price points. Target has the Lego NES listed for a slight discount right now–Amazon sold out at the same price.
This is a great set for experienced builders. Once you’ve assembled it, you’ll have a replica console with functioning switches, a brick-built Atari joystick designed to move like the original controller, and even several cartridges to display.
It’s worth pointing out that this is an Atari console in looks only, but the other retro surprise includes a hidden gaming room straight out of the ’80s. This a small diorama and includes small details like a retro landline phone, TV, posters, and a boom box.
The buildable cartridges are also based on real games like Asteroids, Centipede, and Adventure. The cartridges can be stored in a case and built into mini 3D vignette versions of the games. Finally, the console includes a switch to toggle for color or black-and-white television sets.
In other Lego news, the first Legend of Zelda Lego set released earlier this month. On October 1, Lego will launch its latest Super Mario display kit: a pixel art model of Mario and Yoshi from Super Mario World.
