Athletics drop āOaklandā from their name ahead of West Sacramento move
The Oakland Athletics are officially no more.
The team sent out new brand guidelines Monday, specifying how they want the club to be referred to going forward.
āWhen referring to the team name, use only āAthletics.ā You may use āAāsā on second reference,ā the email reads.
The team has a new designation, ATH, and will play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento (not Sacramento). The new logo will be the familiar āAās,ā but in green.
After 57 years in Oakland, the Aās played their final game at the Coliseum on Sept. 26, winning 3-2 against the Texas Rangers in front of 46,886 fans.
The teamās plan, announced in April, is to play in West Sacramento for three or possibly four years before moving to Las Vegas. The Aās will be sharing Sutter Health Park, which has a capacity of 14,000, with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.
This is the latest move in the history of the Athletics franchise, which started in Philadelphia in 1901 before moving to Kansas City in 1955, and then to Oakland in 1968.
