Bangladesh star reported over ‘suspect’ bowling action
Former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan was reported for a suspect bowling action during his one-off appearance for Surrey in the Vitality County Championship in September.
With eight players unavailable because of England duty, Surrey signed spin-bowling allrounder Shakib explicitly for a top-of-the-table clash at Somerset on what was expected to be a turning Taunton pitch.
The left-armer took nine wickets in the contest after bowling more than 63 overs in Surrey’s 111-run defeat – although the Kia Oval club went on to clinch the Division One title for a third year in a row.
It is understood on-field officials David Millns and Steve O’Shaughnessy flagged Shakib to the England and Wales Cricket Board, which has asked the 37-year-old to undergo tests on his action.
Shakib, who was not called for a no-ball at any point during the match, is expected to have the analysis on his action conducted at an approved location within the next couple of weeks.
He is not currently suspended and it is believed this marks the first time his action has been questioned in a career comprising 71 Tests, 247 ODIs and 129 T20s, in which he has taken a combined 712 wickets.
The ECB and Surrey declined to comment when contacted.
