Battlefield is Still to be Topped in its Destructible Environments, and Years On It Has Us Wondering What Went Wrong With the Franchise

There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through various changes since its initial release back in 2002. As the long-running competitor to Call of Duty, Battlefield managed to make a name for itself thanks to its embrace of realism in the gameplay.

Unfortunately, the last couple of years have proven to be a nightmare for the franchise. The recent entries in the franchise have met with less than stellar feedback.

However, EA could still turn the ship around and bring back the series to its glory days by perhaps dropping a Battlefield remaster, which features what made it famous in the first place: destructible environments.

Battlefield Needs a Remaster With Destructible Environments

Environmental destruction has been a big talking point in the gaming world after the release of The Finals, as it served as a reminder of how epic destructible environments can prove to be in video games. It’s really a surprise how other shooters haven’t tried adopting it.

When it comes to this specific feature, the Battlefield franchise is to thank for boosting it into the mainstream. Battlefield: Bad Company made destructible environments a central function in its gameplay in 2008.

When it comes to exciting features added to games, environmental destruction isn’t just cool; it brings an incredibly dynamic experience. For years, gamers considered the feature to be integral to the franchise, but DICE had other plans.

Despite the feature being loved by the community, for some reason, EA tamed it in the later Battlefield games. While it’s not the sole reason for the failure of entries such as 2042, it has undoubtedly contributed to it.

Some in the community believe that if Battlefield wants to truly become the face of the genre again, it needs to bring a destructible environment with a Remaster that could completely revolutionize the modern gaming landscape.

With there being no way to play the original games and 2042 still failing to find its footing despite massive improvements in recent years, now is truly the right time for DICE and EA to opt for potential rereleases.

A modern version of the Bad Company games combined with legacy features such as a destructible environment could help the franchise bring back fans who’d grown weary of the franchise’s inconsistent releases.

The Next Battlefield Game is Seemingly EA’s Most Ambitious Project

During a recent financial earnings report, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson touched upon the next entry in the Battlefield franchise and the current state of 2042. As the support for 2042 is going to end, the team is shifting its focus to the next game, which is one of the “top priorities” and most “ambitious” projects.

After trying to hype the next game, the CEO stated that EA is giving its development team the resources and technology it requires to deliver an epic experience and has brought together the best for the highly-anticipated shooter.

While EA believes that it has listened to the Battlefield community, 2042‘s seventh season was plagued with controversies. Let’s hope it actually listen to the player base and brings back the epic Battlefield destructible environments in future games.

Do DICE and EA need to bring back any other legacy features in future Battlefield games? Let us know in the comments.
