Bayern rebound from Barca defeat with thumping win
Bayern Munich have shown no signs of a hangover after their heavy defeat to Barcelona as they thrashed bottom side Bochum 5-0 in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarians, who lost 4-1 at Barca in the Champions League, bounced back to power ahead in the first half with goals from Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala before Harry Kane, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman completed the rout after the break.
“The Barca defeat hurt, but we had to look ahead,” Musiala conceded.
“Scoring goals is fun for us and we want to score as many goals as possible in every game. The clean sheet is also important.”
England captain Kane continued his rich vein of form in front of goal with a 15th goal of the season. Nine of those have come in the Bundesliga.
Bayern now top the league on goal difference from RB Leipzig, who had briefly held top spot after beating Freiburg 3-1 on Saturday.
Champions Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin are five points back, after Union drew 1-1 with 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt, who remain a point behind them.
Mario Gotze tapped Frankfurt ahead in the 14th at the far post, before Benedict Hollerbach levelled on the counter in the 66th by chipping over goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Frankfurt’s Arthur Theate was sent off for a second bookable offence 11 minutes later, and Union had a stoppage-time winner from Tim Skarke nullified for offside upon review.
